Contagious

Written by

This old mutt notes the infectious disease of the new government – death by committee or review – has seriously spread into the office of Agriculture Minister Damien O’Connor as well.

His first action was to restructure MPI and create four standalone entities within the ministry; I guess creating more public servants will keep Labour’s union mates happy. Though O’Connor inherited the M.bovis outbreak, it has got worse on his watch yet his only answer so far is a ‘review of NAIT’. Meanwhile, his big plan for the sector is to establish a primary industry council – yes another committee. However, O’Connor’s recent move to put on ice the implementation of DIRA changes which were two years in the making and hold another ‘review’ has left many in the dairy industry scratching their heads.
