Massey Ferguson 5M Series Gains Ground in NZ’s 95–145hp Utility Tractor Market
Since its official release to the New Zealand market in July 2025, the Massey Ferguson 5M Series has steadily solidified its position.
This meets a demand for a robust, entry-level machine to suit smaller and medium sized operators, the company says.
It claims the machine has simplicity, strength and exceptional value, which might tempt some operators away from large trailed machines.
MF has built the 210hp MF 9130 Plus sprayer at its factory in Canoas, Brazil for at least six years, which has led to success in the South American market.
“The MF 9130 Plus hit the mark in Latin America and we’re confident it will do the same in Australia and New Zealand,” says product manager Tim Oldaker. “One of the models has been working in local conditions; it has performed well and impressed everyone who has spent time behind the wheel.”
Main features of the MF 9130 Plus include a large capacity Bosch Rexroth hydrostatic transmission with three operating ranges. This is coupled with Bosch Rexroth variable displacement wheel motors and final drives, using constant 4WD and a cross-drive transmission system.
In operation, two 90cc capacity pumps work together to maintain constant traction, with one pump driving the front left and rear right wheel, while the second drives the front right and rear left wheel.
This ensures that if a wheel hits a wet patch and breaks traction, or if the weight comes off one wheel in extreme undulations, all the other wheels continue driving to keep the machine moving forward.
A unique feature of the MF 9130 Plus is the addition of a double acting valve to the transmission system. This allows the sprayer to run normally at a reduced engine RPM of 1700-1800rpm while maintaining full torque for the engine and hydraulic system, helping to save fuel and extend service life.
Power comes from a 6-cylinder, Tier 3, AGCO Power engine producing 210hp; chemical goes into a 3000L spray tank complemented by a 240L fresh water flush tank; and spraying is powered by a 549L/min Hypro sprayer pump.
There’s a choice of 24m or 28m booms with fence line nozzles and Norac boom levelling as standard; and 1-inch steel boom lines and Hypro nozzle bodies. Standard offering is a seven-section boom with section and rate control; and upgradeable autonomous auto-steering.
In the cab, an air suspended seat has complete implement control via the main armrest, which includes hydraulically actuated axle spacing from the driver’s seat.
