UK Warning

Written by  The Hound

OPINION: Your old mate reckons the atrocious way farmers in the UK are treated by their lords and masters in Westminster is a salient warning for us.

Most politicians are untrustworthy bastards, but some are downright dangerous.

Imagine being a British pig farmer.

You are rightly held to some of the strictest welfare and environment standards in the world. Then you walk into a supermarket full of imported pork, reared to standards that you'd be arrested for, at a price that undercuts you by 35%.

That has already happened here.

In the UK, it's not just pigs. It's everything they produce.

As one astute Pommy prognosticator says, "It's a massive hypocritical accountancy trick that outsources environmental and ethical impacts abroad while punishing farmers and claiming moral victory at home".

Couldn't happen here? It already has.

OPINION: Proponents of regenerative agriculture tend to be naturally aligned with a 'green mindset', so they will be nonplussed with their new mates in the US of A.

Levy Scrutiny

OPINION: Mike Chapman, former chief executive of levy-funded HortNZ, has thrown out a challenge to farmers and growers to put their levy-funded industry organisations under the same scrutiny as fertiliser, electricity, labour and freight.

True Reflection?

A fair question has been raised about how member-funded organisations should conduct themselves when taking a public position on any given issue.

Stuffed!

The canine crusader always has his nose in the air for more media maleficence, so was pointing as soon as he saw the Stuff headline: ‘Wellington residents respond to PM saying he doesn’t need his job!’.
