Scheduled to replace its Axion 800 series, Claas has released details of the new, three model, Axion 8 CMATIC range.
Featuring a 6.7 litre, six-cylinder FPT engine with Dynamic Power, the 8.240, 8.270 and 8.290 models offer rated outputs of 240, 270 and 290hp, boosting to maximums of 264, 291 and 313hp with Dynamic Power and torque ratings of 1132, 1215 and 1283Nm respectively.
Scheduled oil changes are extended from 600 to 750 hours, filter replacement is also extended from 150 to 300 operating hours and a new five year or 5000- hour component warranty covers key items.
A new frontal design, with an optional backlit Claas logo between the headlights, takes its lead from the Axion 9 CMATIC, with the option of a backlit Claas logo, while the new, fully suspended cabin - again from the Axion 9 - is said to have reduced noise levels to a maximum of 67dB(A).
Looking at the CVT, the system is said to rely on existing hardware, while the electronic drivetrain management system has been redeveloped. Like the larger Axion 9 series, operators can use a drive controller to switch between driving directions, alongside choosing between pedal, joystick and PTO modes without any changes in engine or vehicle speed.
Meanwhile, the Auto Load Anticipation function, awarded a silver medal at Agritechnica 2025, continuously and proactively optimises engine speed and gear shifting based on a selflearning algorithm and multiple efficiency maps for the engine, transmission, hydraulics and auxiliary units.
The system detects potential load spikes in advance, such as when lowering an implement into the ground, in advance, proactively increasing engine speed or adjusting gear shifts before the spike occurs.
