The declaration of a medium scale adverse event drought declaration will provide some relief for upper North Island farmers, Federated Farmers Waikato provincial president James Houghton says.

A state of drought has been officially declared in the South Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Hawke's Bay regions today by the Minister for Primary Industries Nathan Guy.
