The farmers who booed Winston Peters at the water tax protest in Morrinsville in September may owe him an apology.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has revealed Labour’s contentious tax on water for commercial purposes was scrapped during post-election negotiations. The tax, maligned by farmers, horticulturalists and the National Party, was the only concession Labour made in its talks with New Zealand First. Peters was adamant that a water tax needed to be applied to those who exported our pristine water in the form of bottled water only, not extended to the agriculture sector.
