French hit recall button

Written by

French dairy giant Lactalis is under political pressure after a salmonella contamination forced a global recall of piles of its baby food products.

Lactalis, a world-giant dairy producer, in December recalled products made at Craon, northwest France, after discovering salmonella bacteria on site. France’s consumer protection agency ordered a halt to sales of products from the site, but some products still got to supermarket shelves.

French President Emmanuel Macron labelled Lactalis’ practices unacceptable, adding that “food security of all French and European citizens is a priority that must be guaranteed at the highest levels”.
