LIC’s mobile app for herd mating

Written by

LIC HAS launched an app that allows farmers to record key mating events from a mobile device.

Minda Mating is the fourth app in the co-op’s series, designed to free farm records from the office so farmers can access and update more information in real time.

Rob Ford, LIC’s general manager of information automation, says the app allows farmers to record pre-mating heats, DIY inseminations and any natural matings they see, from at home, shed or onfarm with no internet connection.

“Recording can be done on the spot, in real time. No need to carry a pen and paper, and no need to update the records back in the office later.”

When the app is open and in range of internet, information will automatically upload to the farm’s web-based records at www.minda.co.nz for the farm manager to approve.

“Pre-mating heats… can help farmers to pick cows on heat during AB, identify any non-cycling cows before mating starts and ultimately lead to improvements in the herd’s 3 week submission rate and 6 week in-calf rate.

“Recording pre-mating heats [may not get done] because it often means more time sitting in front of the computer…. With the app, it will be quick and easy.”

Minda Mating is available for the latest Apple and Android mobile devices, with free download from the app stores. Its use is at no extra charge for farmers subscribed to LIC’s MindApro software, no matter how many staff download it.
