Plastic diesel tanks out perform steel rivals

Written by

AS MUCH as 200,000 L of fuel are known to be pumped annually through one of many Sebco diesel stations on farms and in contractors’ yards, says the brand owner, Ed Harrison.

“Driving around farms across the country you don’t have to go far until you see a unit on a farm somewhere,” he says.

Many of these units have now pumped several hundred thousand litres.  “The feedback we are getting from customers is fantastic” says Harrison. “I had one chap ring me to say the Sebco 4800 was the best thing he had ever bought for the farm.” And he ordered another.

Harrison puts this down to manufacturing quality, quality components and how the set-up works. “With the onset of the common rail diesel engine the need for clean fuel is never more crucial.

“There are many stories of late model vehicles failing in the injector pumps and having large repair bills due to contaminated fuel dispensed from inferior storage tanks. The old steel tank just does not cut the mustard anymore.”

Sebco tests its tank extensively.  “We are tracking 15 units through their lifespan. Of those 15 we have taken two back at five years’ use and conducted invasive testing”.

This involves cutting the tank into strips and testing those strips around the circumference. These strips are sent to a lab in Australia where they’re vigorously tested to show how the resin is performing.

“The results [showed] there was no breakdown of the material in the five years of use. Sebco will be taking another two tanks at ten years’ service and another two at 15 years’ service for the same testing.”

No water or dirt build-up was found in either of the tanks were tested.
