Veterinary Enterprises Group (VEG) has bought a minority shareholding in FarmIQ Systems Ltd.

“We have been working with FarmIQ on developing our own software for some time, for the GrazCare and StockCare businesses,” says Andrew McPherson from VEG.

“We have found that the platforms it has developed are so powerful that we wanted to invest in the company. We see FarmIQ driving a lot of value for our client’s businesses, and this investment offers the opportunity for us to open up new business.”

FarmIQ was founded by Silver Fern Farms and Landcorp in 2010 and has run a large innovation programme part-funded by the Ministry for Primary Industries through its Primary Growth Partnership. The company is now moving into a new phase, with the Primary Growth Partnership programme winding up at the end of June 2017.

“It broadens the ownership of FarmIQ to represent interests across pastoral farming – a farming company, a processing and marketing company, and VEG as a supplier and trusted farm advisor. This supports our position as the central information hub for the pastoral sector,” says FarmIQ chief executive Darryn Pegram.

“We have recently done an organisational review and restructured some aspects of our business to meet the needs of our growing customer base, while continuing to look after our loyal sheep and beef farming clients.”

The company has regional staff who work with local farmers and will now have people with dedicated national business-to-business responsibilities, Pegram adds. It will also have support and training specialists who will be available to work with farmers, along with its product development team.
