Beef + Lamb NZ's Lambing Kit Checklist for a Tough Season
With lambing underway in many regions, Beef + Lamb New Zealand is encouraging farmers to put together a wellequipped lambing kit to help minimise lamb losses, particularly in bad weather.
The award was presented by the Sheep and Beef Cattle branch of the New Zealand Veterinary Association (NZVA) who recognised her excellence in veterinary practice, farmer education, and industry leadership.
They said Bowron exemplifies the very best of rural veterinary practice—combining technical excellence, practical farming knowledge, and a genuine commitment to supporting sheep and beef farmers to succeed.
Combining qualifications in both veterinary science and biochemistry, Bowron has dedicated her career to improving animal health and farm productivity. Throughout her years in mixed and sheep and beef veterinary practice, she earned the respect of farmers and colleagues alike for her practical advice, technical expertise, and commitment to achieving positive outcomes for farming businesses.
Bowron’s influence has extended well beyond the clinic through her leadership in farmer extension programmes, particularly as a B+LNZ Wormwise facilitator, where she has helped farmers across the South Island improve parasite management and reduce drench resistance risks, says the NZVA. She has also contributed to facial eczema education, animal health resources, podcasts, and the development of Wormwise programmes for fine-wool lamb systems.
She also sits on B+LNZ’s Northern South Island Farmer Council which guides organisational decision-making and extension delivery.
NZVA says, as both a veterinarian and sheep and beef farmer, Bowron brings a unique combination of scientific knowledge and practical experience. Her advocacy for bestpractice animal welfare, including the use of pain relief during lamb tailing and castration, has helped drive positive change within the industry.
