Beef + Lamb New Zealand (B+LNZ) says it is pleased by the Government’s announcement yesterday that it would boost funding for research and development into greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation technologies.

Federated Farmers and DairyNZ say they are pleased the Government is investing in new technologies and tools that could solve the agricultural emissions issue.

The Government has announced its Emissions Reduction Plan which they say will put New Zealand on track to meet its first emissions budget.

The Government will commit $710 million over the next four years to accelerate efforts to lower agricultural emissions, expand the contribution of forestry to reduce carbon, and produce alternative ‘green’ fuels.

The winner of the 2022 Fonterra Responsible Dairying Award has been commended for its focus on adapting individual farm systems to the land, resources and staff.

By taking a new approach to its apprenticeship programme, agricultural equipment supplier Norwood says it is ensuring farmers’ machinery will be supported in the future, while also bringing a wider range of people into the industry.
