HORTICULTURE NEW Zealand says it is unbelievable and unexpected that the country is faced with another Queensland fruit fly detection, so soon after the last one in January.

ANOTHER Queesnland fruit fly has been found in Whangarei, near where a single fly was found in January.

INVESTIGATIONS INTO how a single fruit fly arrived in Whangarei must continue after the local port ruled out being the source, Labour's Primary Industries spokesman Damien O'Connor says.

THE MINISTRY for Primary Industries has lifted its controls on the movement of fruit and vegetables in Whangarei after no further Queensland fruit fly were found in the areas.

ALMOST 200 traps in Whangarei have detected no more Queensland fruit fly.

Ministry for Primary Industries border staff were shocked last week by a passenger arriving in Auckland with two crates of fresh mango – which carry a high risk of hosting Queensland fruit fly. 

The fruit fly is one of the biggest risks to our horticultural industry.
