OPINION: Your canine crusader has always been suspicious about the mental capacity of all those anaemic, sickly, unhealthy looking vegans who preach about the benefits of a strictly plant-based diet.

Now there is the science to back up this old mutt’s suspicions. Recent research out of the US saw a review conducted of 18 separate studies, which involved 160,000 participants, that looked at the relation between the consumption or avoidance of meat and psychological health.

The researchers found that meat eaters had better mental health compared with those who avoided meat, who were subject to significantly higher risk rates of depression, anxiety and or self-harm behaviours.

As a mate of the Hound’s opined: “It appears a steak-a-day not only keeps the doctor away, but also those big, burly men with straight jackets!”
