Canterbury-based dairy enterprise Synlait Farms clinched the Lincoln University Foundation's South Island Farmer of the Year competition for 2012 last night (Thursday, November 8).

All finalists this year in the Lincoln University Foundation's annual competition are from the central South Island.

The South Island offering of 14,157 bales saw a 70% clearance, New Zealand Wool Services International's marketing executive, Paul Steel reports.

This week's offering of 10,500 bales from the South Island saw a generally weaker market with 55% of the offering sold, says New Zealand Wool Services International Ltd's general manager, John Dawson.

Strong interest from dairy farmers will make for a capacity crowd at the South Island Dairy Event (SIDE) to be held at Otago University in Dunedin at the end of June.

THE WOOL SALE held in the South Island today (Thursday) comprised 10,334 bales of which 7, 587 reached market reserves or above, New Zealand Wool Services International Limited's general manager, John Dawson reports.
