Two new B+L farmer directors

Written by

TWO NEW FARMER directors will join the Beef + Lamb New Zealand Board after the annual meeting in Feilding on March 14.

They are Waikaka Valley farmer, Andrew Morrison who will represent the Southern South Island electorate and Wairarapa farmer, George Tatham who will represent the Eastern North Island electorate.

They were both elected unopposed.

They replace Beef + Lamb New Zealand directors who had not sought re-election.

Beef + Lamb New Zealand chairman, Mike Petersen, who is the Eastern North Island farmer director, will stand down at the annual meeting having served on the board for the past 10 years – seven of those as chairman.

Leon Black, the current Southern Southland Island farmer director is standing down after serving six years on the board.

Federated Farmers congratulates the election of both Morrison and Tatham to the Beef+Lamb New Zealand board. "On behalf of my colleagues we'd like to congratulate Andrew Morrison and George Tatham for being elected unopposed," says Jeanette Maxwell, Federated Farmers Meat & Fibre chairperson.

"Both Andrew and George join Beef + Lamb at a critical juncture in our industry's future. It is great to see talented people on the up; Andrew being the current Federated Farmers Southland Meat & Fibre chairperson.

"We have also just seen new farmer directors elected onto the two meat coops while Federated Farmers has just started member consultation on our own Meat Industry Options: A Discussion Paper.

"We all look forward to working with them to bring about a successful and profitable red meat industry," Maxwell says.
