UK farmers are up in arms over claims made in a TV documentary Apocalypse Cow: How Meat Killed the Planet.

In the programme, renowned UK environmentalist George Monbiot claimed that livestock farming was “destroying our life support system”. 

Farmers say Britain has some of the highest standards of environmental protection in the world: they also note that British farming has an ambition to become net zero by 2040.

Farming is not just an industry, it is the lifeblood of Britain’s rural heritage, the National Farmers Union says.
