Potatoes New Zealand has congratulated Peter Reynolds of TA Reynolds Ltd in Pukekohe on being awarded the Horticulture New Zealand Bledisloe Cup, recognising a lifetime of service and contribution to New Zealand horticulture.

The Bledisloe Cup is awarded to an individual who has made an outstanding and meritorious contribution to the New Zealand horticulture industry.

Reynolds joins a distinguished group of past recipients including New Zealand Fruitgrowers Federation chair Andrew Fenton, scientist Dr Stuart Davis, and Bearsley Group founder Danny Bearsley.

Over a Century of Family History in Pukekohe

Reynolds's connection to Pukekohe spans more than 100 years, with the Reynolds family having lived in the district across multiple generations.

The family has played an ongoing role in the development of New Zealand's vegetable industry and in the wider Pukekohe community.

A Career of Advocacy and Industry Contribution

Throughout his career, Reynolds has advocated for growers and contributed to the horticulture sector through industry organisations, committees and grower networks, helping represent grower interests in discussions that have shaped the direction of New Zealand horticulture.

He is recognised for helping drive more sustainable growing practices, championing soil health, and encouraging practical approaches that reduce environmental impact while maintaining productive farming systems.

His work in environmental stewardship includes riparian planting and responsible land and water management, aimed at protecting the long-term health of growing regions.

Industry Reaction

Potatoes New Zealand Chief Executive Kate Trufitt said the recognition was richly deserved.

"Peter has made an extraordinary contribution to horticulture over many decades. He is highly respected not only for what he has achieved as a grower, but for the countless hours he has devoted to supporting others and strengthening our industry."

Trufitt said Reynolds had consistently been willing to contribute his knowledge and advocate for growers.

"Peter has always been willing to step forward, contribute his knowledge and advocate for growers. He has helped shape industry discussions, supported new initiatives, and worked tirelessly to ensure horticulture remains strong for future generations."

A Widely Respected Figure

Those who know Reynolds describe his humility, generosity and genuine care for people, along with a reputation for being willing to help, listen and offer guidance across the sector.

"The horticulture industry is stronger because of people like Peter," Trufitt said.

"His commitment to growers, his care for the environment, his willingness to share knowledge and his dedication to ensuring a positive future for horticulture make him an incredibly worthy recipient of this honour. Peter's legacy can be seen not only in the industry he has helped build, but in the many people he has inspired and supported along the way."
