The Global Dairy Trade average price index slid again last night, the third consecutive drop this year.

After an uninspiring ten months, the start of 2015 has understandably created a great deal more optimism on the sellers’ side of global dairy markets. 

In the last couple of weeks we have seen a welcome recovery in the Global Dairy Trade price index, albeit on reduced volumes for this time of year.

Despite a smaller rise in the global dairy price index last week, farmers will be happy, says Federated Farmers Dairy chairman Andrew Hoggard. He says farmers were hoping for another big rise, similar to the previous two auctions but this did not eventuate.

The global dairy price slide seems to be over and farmers are banking on happier days ahead.

All eye are on Fonterra this week to see if it lifts its $4.70/kgMS forecast after the Global Dairy Trade (GDT) Index price last week surged 10.1%.
