Rain kills drought meet

Written by  Milking It

OPINION: DairyNZ was forced to cancel its Top of the South farmer meetings, called to discuss a drought response.

Ironically, the reason for the cancellation was a heavy rain warning that Metservice issued for Takaka, Golden Bay.

Farmers took to Twitter to thank DairyNZ for "organising" the rain, prompting one rain-starved Southland farmer to urge DairyNZ to organise a drought meeting for hisarea.

While the West Coast was also forecast to have heavy rain, many other regions - north and south - could also do with some 'rain-making' by DairyNZ.

Another win

OPINION: Feds Southland 'pres' Jason Herrick and colleagues who continue the good fight against bureaucratic madness on behalf of farmers, have had another win - for now, at least - getting a court decision granting a 'stay' on rules in the Southland Water and Land Plan until changes can be made to section 70 of the RMA by central goverment, somtheing they clearly signaled after the election.
