The Greens say the party will not soften its anti-genetic modification stance despite a plea from some of the world's top scientists, who say opposition by green groups is blocking GM foods that could help reduce disease in third-world countries. In an open letter, published recently, 107 Nobel laureates urged environmental groups to end their opposition to genetically modified food, saying there was no evidence of risks to human health and their stance was based on emotion and dogma.
