All talk

Written by  The Hound

OPINION: The Hound sees that all the virtue signalling and talk about how good it is is not paying off for Government-owned farmer Landcorp.

The company has just recorded a $11 million loss for the year ended June 2019. Of course, the virtue signaller-in-chief – chief executive Steven Carden – was quick to blame drought and a myriad other factors for his company’s woeful financial performance.

Meanwhile, the minister in charge of Landcorp, Shane Jones, was quick to criticise Fonterra for its terrible financial performance. But he’s been deathly silent on the woeful performance of the business he is supposed to be overseeing. Perhaps Jones could take a leaf out of the dairy co-op’s book and freeze all pay rises for the 25% (or more) of Landcorp staff pulling in at least $100K a year.
