Augur attachment fills silos safely

Written by

DOUG GOUGH, of Gough Agritech Ltd, displayed at the South Island Field Days this simple device for indicating when a silo is nearly full.

It reduces the risk of jammed augers.

It attaches to and hangs on the end of the augur. When the grain level reaches the bottom of the spout a pressure device inside the spout triggers an alarm to alert the operator. The grain, in the meantime, can fill past the alarm and spill out through the holes.

The device is connected by cable to the tractor.

“Farmers no longer have to climb to the top of the silo to check the levels, a safety feature. Silo filling is associated with a lot of dust and the level is often hard to see,” Gough explains.
