Power play

Written by

Strainrite Fencing Systems has developed the Joule Shield wooden post claw insulator with none of the limitations of insulators asked to cope with modern energisers.

The new insulators deliver much greater voltage than older units and more effective stock control.

While existing insulator designs were effective with the older lower-output energisers, higher currents can typically result in power loss, lack of fence efficiency and increased running costs.

Tests suggest that the Joule Shield insulators withstand 50% more voltage in a dry-conditions test and up to 100% more voltage in simulated rain.

Joule Shield insulators are designed with a low profile, heavy-duty jaws for extreme load endurance and multiple shield plates that increase the surface area and tracking distance, helping to prevent power leakage.

The multi-shield design takes its cue from the insulators seen on high voltage power lines, and closer inspection shows structural webbing and thicker walls for strength and durability, using UV stabilised polymers.
