The New Zealand milk production season has come to an end while Australia is close behind with their new season commencing a month later in July. Recent statistics from DCANZ (Dairy Companies Association of New Zealand) shows that New Zealand milk production in March was 1.7 million tonnes, 9.1% higher than March 2011. Milk production for the first 10 months of the 2011-12 season is now up 9.7% at 17.46 million tonnes. It is still expected that milk production for the entire season will be at least 9% over last season.
Australian milk production in March was 2.9% higher than March 2011 at 666 million litres, with season to date milk production now ahead of last season by 4.1%. It is expected that milk production for the Australian season will end up about 4% above last season's levels.
