Tough life

Written by

The Hound reckons Fonterra chief executive Theo Spierings should be forever known as ‘Teflon Theo’, because no matter what goes wrong on his watch it never seems to stick to him.

During Spierings’ reign at the dairy giant the Dutch maestro has overseen a number of calamities including the false botulism scare, the ongoing under-performing business in Australia and now the Beingmate disaster in China, to name a few . However, it seems that despite all these ‘challenges’ the only thing ‘Little’ Johnny Wilson and the Fonterra board have raised with Teflon Theo is his salary.  Spierings earned a total of $8.32 million in 2017, a 57% jump from 2016. According to Fonterra’s annual report, this total was included performance payments (that’s right ‘performance payments’) for 2016 and 2017 of $1.83m and $3.85m!
